Tucked into the Catskill Mountains, The Woodhouse Lodge is one of those venues that naturally encourages people to slow down.

Instead of arriving for a few hours and heading home, guests settled in for an entire weekend together. They spent time catching up over drinks, wandered the property between events, and had the chance to simply enjoy each other's company before the celebration officially began.

That extra time together shaped the entire atmosphere. Nothing felt rushed. There was space for conversation, connection, and moments that can't be scheduled into a timeline.

A Wedding Weekend in the Catskills

Honoring Heritage Through the Ceremony

One of the most meaningful parts of the day was the Sofreh Aghd, a traditional Persian wedding ceremony spread that honored N’s heritage.

The Sofreh is filled with symbolic elements representing love, prosperity, patience, sweetness, and the beginning of a shared life together. It created a beautiful focal point for the ceremony while inviting guests into a tradition that held deep personal meaning for the couple.

Before the ceremony even began, guests listened to something equally personal. N had previously shared their meet-cute story on an episode of Armchair Anonymous from the Armchair Expert podcast, and they played the recording before everyone took their seats. Instead of welcoming guests with announcements or background music, they welcomed them into their story.

By the time N walked down the aisle, every guest already felt like they knew them a little better.

Italian Inspiration, Persian Hospitality, and a Celebration That Felt Like Home

Rather than committing to one specific aesthetic, N and J built a celebration inspired by the things they genuinely love.

Working alongside Boom & Bloom, they blended colorful florals with Italian-inspired details, thoughtful tablescapes, and relaxed gathering spaces that encouraged guests to stay awhile.

One of my favorite choices came at dinner. Instead of a formal plated meal, guests gathered around wood-fired pizza, creating an atmosphere that felt more like an incredible dinner party than a traditional wedding reception. It was approachable, joyful, and completely authentic to who they are as a couple.

After dinner, guests could wander over to an outdoor Persian-inspired tea lounge nestled beneath the trees. Designed as a quiet place to relax, sip tea, and reconnect with friends, it reflected the hospitality woven throughout the entire celebration.

It also happened to be close enough to the dance floor that whenever a favorite song came on, guests could jump right back into the party. Those kinds of intentional transitions make a wedding feel effortless.

Fashion Full of Personality

N's fashion choices were every bit as thoughtful as the rest of the celebration.

She wore two completely different bridal looks throughout the day, each with its own personality while still feeling cohesive with the overall design.

Her ceremony look felt modern, editorial, and understated, while her second outfit brought an entirely different energy to the reception.

J's green suit complemented the natural surroundings perfectly, creating portraits that felt timeless without feeling overly formal.

Together, they looked completely like themselves—which is always my favorite kind of wedding fashion.

A Dance Floor That Extended Beyond the Dance Floor

As the evening unfolded, Dart Collective kept the energy high from the first song until the very last dance.
But what stood out most wasn't simply that people danced. It was how guests moved naturally throughout the entire property.

Some gathered around cocktail tables. Some relaxed in the tea lounge. Others kicked off their shoes and danced on the grass beneath the trees as the sun disappeared behind the Catskills.

There wasn't one "right" place to be. Everyone found their own way to experience the celebration, and somehow that made the entire wedding feel even more connected.

Thoughtful Weddings Don't Happen by Accident

Looking back, what stays with me most isn't one specific design detail.

It's how intentionally every decision was made. The ceremony honored family and heritage. The meal reflected the couple's personalities. The guest spaces encouraged conversation instead of constant activity. Even the entertainment allowed people to celebrate in the way that felt most natural to them.

When every decision starts with "Does this feel like us?" instead of "What are we supposed to do?" the result is a wedding that feels welcoming, personal, and beautifully hosted. N and J created exactly that.
